A Schizophrenic writing on Democracy 2

When I consider the employed, and I have employed sisters and a brother, it is not a family of schizophrenics, the words are hard to choose, I know how they do it, I don't know how they do it easily, it is impossible for me to keep a full-time job, to work, but beyond that, they are socially aware, involved, interested. And like my mom says looking at this leftover this schizophrenic me, mom says she can still contribute. And the voices seem to like and repeat what I write on political science.

So today, I will be writing again on this democracy and specifically what I feel are our pressures of the day on the proper role of government. We have a structure of government that we accept, we describe it as a democracy, government by the people, but we are struggling to find effective points of polictical influence. The "Occupy" efforts were rather unsightly and rag-tag and did not yeild an increase in people feeling empowered and becoming polictically effective agents.

Two points stand for attention, and I feel they are examples, there are many points to consider, where people feel voiceless and like government runs on an alien power source, that it is not the will of the people that is choosing the issues and deciding matters. Alex Dragnich in his book, Major European Governments, says that mistakes are preferable to too much government. I don't know what "mistakes" can be foreseen in the oil pipeline from Canada, but the jobs would be what would be wanted these days. And to put the oil to be processed in the US market rather than some other foreign nation. But where would the "voice" come from properly, would it be from the representatives of the several states affected, from those who would gain the jobs or just from a bystander like myself, that just sort of senses the pipeline should not be blocked by government. It is an example of government acting beyond its proper role.

The second point where the voice of the people, is feeling ineffective or where government is again acting beyond its proper role is in the expansion of abortion as a birth control measure. Now in the economic analysis, one would look at supply and demand. And where is the voice of those of concern, we don't hear from the pregnant females, bemoaning lack of access to abortion procedures, here again it is politicians, those with law and legal implimentation jobs stepping in to put abortion access and means within easier reach to those who are not even active in stating that there is a demand for increased access to abortion. Abortion is available, and back to Dragnich's statement mistakes are preferable to too much government. Abortion is an option, it doesn't need to be pushed as the better or easiest option. And why is it that government representatives do not seem to take their maleness into account? This is a female concern, and males making the decisions, do not seem to have a female perspective. Women after abortion, sometimes go into depression, sometimes they grieve, they do not have the savvy of the married female who wants a family, they are not at the same level of social responsibility and they should be protected for their vulnerability to the easy solution that isn't.

So this is about our voices, we have a constitution that protects our voices, but how do we make our voices politically effective? Part of the democratic social structure here in the US are the political parties, which are basically open to new members, they have meetings they perform functions for their candidates. And Dragnich says this is the place where leadership is molded, this is the point where the candidates move most closely with the people. So if you are feeling your voice is ineffective, you might think about becoming more active in the political party process. And meet and influence candidates before they are elected.

I like your hub, well done. I can agree with much of what you have to say. Everyone seems to have an opinion, but few are ready or willing to really change anything. I believe things are changing. There will be new political movements and ways to do things. People all over the world are getting tired of, and can see, the way the people are no longer deciding anything.

Gwen, I really liked the way you presented this...very concise and well-put. I also like the artwork you did...Nice floral display.

I don't think "Leftover" is what you are.
